Cultivating courage

StarNadine Stair was 85 years old when she wrote the following poem. May her words encourage you to live each day with courage as you dare to turn new corners and do what you never imagined you could do.

If I had my life to live over, I'd dare to make more mistakes next time.
I'd relax, I would limber up and I would be sillier than I have been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously.
I would take more chances.
I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.
I would eat more ice cream and less beans.
I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones.

You see, I'm one of those people who live sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I've had my moments and if I had to do over again, I'd have more of them.

In fact, I'd try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after one, instead of living so many years ahead of each day.

I've been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute. If I had to do again, I would travel lighter than I have.

If I had my life to live over, I would stand barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds.

I would pick more daisies. --Nadine Stair

Verses and quotes on courage

You will forget your misery. It will all be gone like water under the bridge. Your life will be brighter than the noonday. Any darkness will be as bright as morning. You will have courage because you have hope. You will be protected and will rest in safety. You will lie down unafraid...
--Job 11:18-19

Courage is like love; it must have hope for nourishment. --Napoleon I

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear, even if earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.
--Psalm 46:1-2

This is courage in a man--to bear unflinchingly what heaven sends.

Be strong and courageous....Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord is the one who goes before you...
--Deuteronomy 31:7-8 strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
--Joshua 1:9

No one can answer for his courage when he has never been in danger.
--La Rochefoucauld

The Lord is my light and my salvation--so why should I be afraid?
--Deuteronomy 20:1

Dear Friends, don't be afraid of those who want to kill you. They can only kill the body; they cannot do any more to you.
--Luke 12:4
